The Writing Process
- Initial contact: Contact me by phone or e-mail.
- Initial interview: This appointment is free of charge and will allow us to see if we are a good fit, to establish your goals, and to discuss your timeline. I prefer to do this in person and if possible, in your work setting. If this is impossible, due to time constraints or distance, we can do a phone intake. We will discuss your business goals, your mission, any strategic plan that you are following, your target market, your current customer base, other publicity you might be using, and your distribution/marketing plans.
- Contract: Once we have agreed to work together, I will mail you a contract letter summarizing the goals that we will be meeting together, outlining a payment schedule, and specifying any particular issues (i.e. deadline or budget). After you have signed this and returned it with the required deposit, we can begin work.
- Timeline: Based on our interview, a review of any written materials that you might already have, and any other necessary research, I will create and submit an initial draft of text for you to look over and comment on. After you have returned this to me, I will put together a second draft based on your feedback and we will continue this process until we are both satisfied that the written materials optimally represent you and your business. The average project involves two to four rewrites before a final copy is completed.
- Conclusion: As soon as the final draft has been approved by you, I will send you a final copy of our work and an invoice, along with any submission information (from my end or yours) that you will need.
With this progression, you are involved every step of the way and your comments, concerns, likes and dislikes are an essential part of the process. As a team, we will promote your business in a way that sounds like you, works for you, and feels right to you.
My goal for all of my clients is to help you get what you want in a timely and cost-effective manner, a responsibility that I find both challenging and enjoyable!
